If you’re in London for Christmas, go to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. I took photos, but they were woefully inadequate. It’s free, it’s packed, it’s way too much fun. That is all.

I was out of the city for the weekend, and stopped to take a gander at the tree as I left St. Pancras. Then, somehow on the way back, while the whole thing was lit up at night, I walked right by and payed no attention whatsoever. Does this make me Christmas jaded, or Lego jaded?
Worse, I didn’t even bother to snap a pic and let Flo here take it. Oh well, he’s the photographer…

Tadao Ando’s ‘Silence’ Unveiled in London’s Mount Street
Mount Street is one of the hidden gems of our bustling city. Anchored by my favourite hotel in London, the spectacular Connaught, and lined with boutiques too chic for Bond Street, this enclave is typically overlooked by tourists. Tadao Ado’s Silence is a fitting monument to a street that seems blissfully apart from the chaos that surrounds it.
Mount Street, one of London’s (and the world’s) epicentres of style and fashion, has recently welcomed ‘Silence’, an elegant water feature designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, after a joint commission by property developer Grosvenor and the Connaught hotel, in partnership with Westminster City Council.

Why I can’t leave the UK
When I moved here from the US almost two years ago, many promises were made. I said I’d be back within a year, and I meant it. And then…then. There are many wonderful things about living here, but really if I can point to one thing that would definitively prevent me from leaving, it would be this:

Oh yes. You thought it was a museum or a bookstore, the friends I’ve met here or the fact that I get to see Kevin Spacey in Richard III. Nope, it’s only the World’s Greatest Yogurt.
I never even really liked yogurt all that much until I moved here, but that’s mainly because every major commercial yogurt in the US is gross. Trader Joe’s Greek yogurt is nice, Fage, not too shabby (even if its homonym is a hideous Star Trek virus). But literally nothing there holds a candle to Rachel’s. They added a ginger yogurt to their line a few months ago, and now I am a woman obsessed.
A friend of mine visited and was shocked how good her eggs tasted here—the eggiest eggs she’d ever eaten. I feel the same way all the time here, with strawberries and tomatoes, Jersey Royal potatoes and apples. I was living in California, where so much of the produce in the US is grown, and none of it had the flavor of what I can find at my local supermarket. How can I go back to that when I can have breakfasts like this?

This is the most Britishy British breaky by the way—Rachel’s Ginger Greek yogurt, with Rude Health Top Banana cereal and British berries in an Emma Bridgewater bowl, and Teapigs matcha in a Liberty mug. Didn’t even realize it until I saw the photo.

Howdy friends and neighbors
I know I said months ago that I’d be back, writing all sorts of crazy Britannia-related tips and posting silly photos, but this whole “writing a novel” business is a bit on the exhausting side. That said, the book is coming along really well, I took a couple of relaxing trips, went to my first NHS doctor, did a juice cleanse—I know, sounds nuts, but I feel like a new girl—and am in the process of redecorating my office into something straight out of Disneyland (or possibly Epcot?).
Tons of pics to come, rants about trains (Virgin!), raves about marvellously British foods, and a travel guide to North Wales. Thanks for following!

Ah, the E-type. Dreamiest of dreamy cars. Ok, maybe not this one, exactly, but you get the idea.
Ginormous Jaguar E-Type Sculpture by Gerry Judah
At 91 ft all, this stylish roadster is made from .62 miles of 4 ft. diameter steel tubing and weighs 193 tons (386,000 lbs), the equivalent of 135 E-types. Currently on display in Sussex, UK.

Homemade beef pies in puff pastry, new in our case. The meltingly-tender beef is slowly braised in our own beef stock with carrots and onions. Pop one in the oven, and pretend your gran just made it for you.
Hey folks! Well, some of you may remember I said a while ago I’d been busy working away in the kitchens at Selfridges…well, this is what I’ve been doing. Any of you who happen to be meat fans please check out our butcher shop’s new tumblr, where I’ll be posting pics of our yummy foods, random celeb customers (Nigella today but forgot the camera—doh!), recipes and the like.
